Davie Youth Lacrosse Foundation, Inc. (DYLF)
is a 501.c.3 charitable organization
formed to develop a youth lacrosse program in Davie, Florida.
The organization was founded in 2007 by Pete Dunne, a long-time
lacrosse player and coach, with 2008 as the first full season.
Pete is a resident of Davie.
The organization is driven to provide a
"best-in-class" youth program for the children of Davie and the
surrounding area. In our first two seasons we have
exceeded the expectations of the participants and parents.
The players have become better all around athletes, fair
competitors, and good lacrosse players. Along the way the
parents have learned the game and watched their young athletes
get in better shape and fall in love with the game of lacrosse.
We look forward to our third season. Our
growth in the first two seasons has been phenomenal.
In 2009 we grew 165% over 2008. We expect similar growth
in 2010. We continue to need coaches at every level.
Below is some information on the DYLF officers and directors running the
program.
OFFICERS AND DIRECTORS
Pete Dunne
(Virginia), President
and Founder - a New Jersey native, Pete who
played his high school lacrosse with state finalist Peddie
School in Hightstown, NJ. He went on to play his college
lacrosse at long-time powerhouse University of Virginia.
After college he played 2 years with the New Jersey Lacrosse
club and 16 years with the Ft. Lauderdale Flamingos Lacrosse
Club bringing home seven state championships. Pete has
played on numerous tournament teams in the Vail Lacrosse
Shootout, Lake Placid Summit Lacrosse Tournament, and the
Florida Lacrosse Classic. Over the years Pete has had high
school coaching positions at Trinity Episcopal, Gulliver Prep,
Weston Varsity Club and Archbishop McCarthy.
Pete has also been on staff for numerous local camps including
Premier Players, Flamingo Lacrosse Academy, and Shanahan's MVP
Lacrosse. Pete has been a division lead for the
Lacrossewear Fall League (2009, 2010) and Head Coach for Davie
U11 Select and South Florida Select U11 teams. Pete was
inducted into the South Florida Lacrosse Hall of Fame on May 2,
2009. Pete has been a Davie resident since 1998.
Other: Pete earned a BS in Commerce from
McIntire School of Commerce at UVa and an MBA from University of
Miami. Pete is president and a partner in Franklin
Communications in Miami. Pete has 2 boys in the program -
Chris and Kelly.
Shaun Bamforth
(RPI), Vice
President and Founder - a Massachusetts native,
Shaun played his HS lacrosse at Framingham High School. He
played college ball at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy,
New York. Shaun has played for 6 years with the Ft.
Lauderdale Flamingos Lacrosse Club and is currently playing with
the team. He continues to bring home the state championships
including 5 of the last 6 years. Shaun has coached in
numerous skills clinics including the Flamingo Lacrosse Academy.
Other: Shaun earned a B.S. in Civil
Engineering from RPI and is a Professional Engineer registered
in the State of Florida.
Carmen Dunne
(Florida), Treasurer -
Carmen is Pete's wife and is an integral part of
the organization. In addition to driving sponsorship sales and
generating yearbook advertising revenue, she handles many
administrative aspects of the program. Carmen has
been a Davie resident since 1998.
Other: Carmen earned a BA in Marketing from University of
Florida. Carmen has 2 boys in the program - Chris and Kelly.
Chris Hock
(Towson State), Secretary

a Long Island native, Chris is a midfielder who
played his high school lacrosse at Lynbrook HS. He played his
college ball at Towson State University. After college, Chris
played 7 years with the Ft. Lauderdale Flamingos Lacrosse Club
earning five state championships. He has also played in numerous
tournaments with the FROGS (Florida Real Old Guys), Vail
Lacrosse Shootout, Florida Lacrosse Classic and the Ocean City
Tournament. Chris handles the equipment and financial aid
matters for the organization. He also helps coach at all of the
pre-season clinics.
Other: Chris earned a BS in Criminal Justice
from Towson State University. He is a retired Hallandale Beach
Police Captain. Chris currently runs the surveillance department
at Mardi Gras Racetrack and Casino. Chris and his wife Laura
have a 3 year old daughter, Kylee and have resided in Davie for
the last 10 years.
Bruce Barr
(Jacksonville), Director -
Born and raised in Ossining, New York. Bruce
started playing lacrosse in 8th grade for Ossining High School
J.V. and played for 5 years at the school. After graduating, he
played one fall season for Southampton College, LIU,
Southampton, Long Island. He transferred to Jacksonville
University were he played pick-up lacrosse games with local
clubs. For seven years, he has coached football at Cooper
City High School both offensive and defensive lines for the J.V
and Varsity. He is entering his 2nd year coaching at DYLF.
Other: Bruce earned a B.S. in Business Management from
Jacksonville University and a J.D. from St. Thomas University,
School of Law. He has lived in Cooper City since 1989 and is
married to his high school sweetheart, Irma. Irma is a
kindergarten teacher at Embassy Creek Elementary in Cooper City.
They have 2 children Craig (10), a player in the DYLF, and Grace
(7), a possible player in DYLF.
